Certified Portuguese Filigree has reached a new level of international projection with the opening of Joalharia do Carmo's first store outside Portugal, located in Times Square, New York. The space is dedicated to the commercialization of this traditional Portuguese art.
The inauguration, which took place on Tuesday, the 22nd, was attended by prominent figures such as the Prime Minister, Luís Montenegro, the Councillor for Tourism of the Gondomar Municipal Council, Aurora Vieira, and the Councillor for Economic Development of the Póvoa de Lanhoso Municipal Council, Gilberto Anjos. These two municipalities are benchmarks in the production of certified filigree in Portugal.
This opening represents a significant advancement in the promotion and internationalization of Certified Portuguese Filigree. The work has been developed in coordination among various entities, with the active involvement of the Municipality of Gondomar.
In 2022, the municipalities of Gondomar and Póvoa de Lanhoso, along with A.CERTIFICA and the Grupo O Valor do Tempo, established a cooperation protocol focused on promoting and disseminating the certification of Portuguese Filigree. The partnership aims to enhance the recognition of certified filigree, value the work of artisans, and ensure the preservation and dissemination of this traditional know-how.
The permanent presence of Certified Portuguese Filigree in Times Square offers a new opportunity to introduce this tradition to international audiences and strengthen its recognition in emerging markets.
