The Executive of the Gondomar Municipal Council approved, this Tuesday, a vote of solidarity for the Parish Councils affected by the decrease in funding foreseen in the State Budget for 2027.

The President of the Municipal Council, Luís Filipe Araújo, warned of the “substantial cut in the budget of the Parish Councils”, hoping it will be reversed in the final version of the State Budget for 2027. The approved document expresses concern about the announced cut, which foresees a reduction in funding for 210 Parish Councils nationwide and represents, in Gondomar's case, a decrease in base revenue in the order of several tens of thousands of euros.
The Municipal Executive highlights the fundamental role of the Parish Councils in proximity to the populations, in social action, and in territorial management. It warns of the impact that the funding reduction could have on the capacity of services to respond, on public investment, and on support for families.
It is also recalled that the reinforcement of the Parish Councils' competences requires robust financial packages and a relationship of solidarity between the Central State and local authorities, aiming for the well-being of citizens.
The vote of solidarity was subscribed by the entire Executive at the monthly ordinary public meeting of the Gondomar Municipal Council, held at the Parish Council building of Foz do Sousa and Covelo.
