LNEG participated in the Wind & Solar Integration Workshop 2026, held in Porto from September 29 to October 2, presenting four papers on renewable energy integration.

The National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG) was present at the Wind & Solar Integration Workshop 2026, a significant international event dedicated to the integration of renewable energies into electrical systems, which took place in the city of Porto from September 29 to October 2. LNEG's participation included the presentation of four scientific papers, developed by Ana Estanqueiro and António Couto, which showcased the results of the European project CETP Man0EUvRE.
The presented papers addressed various crucial challenges for the energy transition. One paper, titled “Challenges and Emerging Solutions for Electricity Markets with High vRES Shares,” focused on the difficulties imposed on electricity markets by the growing share of variable renewable energy sources (VRES). Another study, “The Impact of European Energy Transition Scenarios on the Iberian Electricity Day-ahead Market,” evaluated the consequences of European energy transition scenarios on the Iberian daily electricity market.
Additionally, the paper “Reserve Activation Under Network Constraints in a High-Renewable 2030 Portuguese Scenario” was presented, analyzing the operational challenges of a Portuguese electrical system with high VRES penetration, considering network constraints. Finally, the tool “Weather-based Alert Tool for Balancing Reserves Activation in Near 100% Renewable Power Systems” was introduced, aiming to identify situations requiring increased activation of balancing reserves in power systems with almost 100% renewable energy in advance.
LNEG's participation in this workshop underscores its commitment and contribution to advancing knowledge and developing essential tools that support the large-scale integration of renewable energies, the efficient operation of electrical systems, and the evolution of electricity markets. For more details on the presented papers or potential collaborations, LNEG remains available for contact.
