The mayor of Santo Tirso, Alberto Costa, conducted a working visit to the parish of Água Longa, overseeing on-site a series of interventions promoted by the Municipality and the Parish Council. The total investment for these actions surpasses 500 thousand euros.
Accompanied by the president of the Parish Council of Água Longa, José Carlos Conde, and councilor Marco Cunha, Alberto Costa toured various points within the parish. The visit allowed for the assessment of completed and ongoing works, as well as the identification of new intervention needs and the strengthening of collaboration between the Municipality and the Parish Council.
“A policy of proximity is made on the ground, monitoring what is being done, but also listening to the needs that continue to exist. It is from this close relationship with the parishes that investment priorities arise, and this is how we manage to transform commitments into concrete works,” stated Alberto Costa.
The Mayor visited the requalification of Rua de Santo António, Rua dos Lameirões, and Rua Ponte do Arquinho. These works, directly promoted by the Municipality, covered approximately 1.15 kilometers of roadways and represented an investment of about 444 thousand euros.
The delegation proceeded to the intervention on a section of Rua do Pousão, the electrification and paving of the access to the games park of the Centro Recreativo e Popular da Juventude de Água Longa, and the execution of rainwater drainage in a segment of Rua de São Roque.
The Rua Professor José da Silva Areal was another stop. This street holds particular significance as it was the first work completed under the Municipal Plan for Works in Parishes, foreseen in the 2025 electoral program, responding to an identified need in the territory.
“We made a commitment to the parishes, and we want that commitment to be visible in the territory. The completion of the first work under this plan in Água Longa demonstrates precisely that; what was defined as a priority is being implemented on the ground and producing concrete results,” emphasized the Municipal Chamber President.
Municipal investment in Água Longa is set to continue in 2027, with approximately 131 thousand euros allocated within the framework of the Plan and Budget's Major Options. This amount includes about 12 thousand euros for delegation of competencies, around 19 thousand euros for capital reinforcement, and 100 thousand euros designated for interventions on unpaved streets.
This visit is part of the municipal strategy of proximity investment, based on constant coordination with the Parish Councils and the definition of priorities stemming from the specific needs of each territory.
