The session included testimony from the president of CIMAA, who also leads the municipality of Crato, and the presidents of the municipalities of Alter do Chão, Portalegre, and Fronteira. The mayors recalled that the Pisão Dam has been a consensual project since 2018, with unanimity among the region's 15 municipalities, and is considered vital for economic development and combating water scarcity in Alto Alentejo.
The strong presence of residents in the courtroom demonstrated the unequivocal support of the population from the village of Pisão and the municipality of Crato for the project.
This hearing was convened to correct formal errors pointed out by higher judicial bodies in the actions of environmental associations contesting the Environmental Impact Declaration (DIA) issued by the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA).
Following the conclusion of the hearings, the process will proceed to the analysis of the presiding judge, who will rule on the validity of the technical document and the consequent resumption of on-site works. CIMAA awaits the decision with serenity, remaining on full alert to proceed with the execution of what is considered the most important work ever for Alto Alentejo, with financial and temporal support secured by the Government until 2030.
