The Intermunicipal Community of Alto Alentejo (CIMAA), through its president Joaquim Diogo, signed financing commitments in Évora for rural and forest firefighting resources, reinforcing the territory's safety and resilience.

The ceremony, held at the CCDR Alentejo facilities, included the participation of Joaquim Diogo, who stressed the importance of strengthening prevention, modernizing civil protection resources, and preparing communities for emergencies. "We cannot demand populations to be resilient if we do not give them the information, the means, and the necessary conditions to be so," stated the CIMAA President.
In this context, the planned investment of approximately one million euros for the acquisition of civil protection equipment and material resources for the municipalities of Alto Alentejo was highlighted. This support aims to strengthen the capacity for prevention and response to emergency situations, including support for fire departments.
The advancement to the second phase of the Integrated Video Surveillance System for Forest Fire Prevention was also noted. With the application already approved and the public tender underway, the project foresees the installation of six fixed towers, two mobile towers, and the acquisition of a drone to enhance surveillance and early detection of fires.
Joaquim Diogo also advocated for greater cooperation between Intermunicipal Communities, calling for a joint regional strategy to anticipate risks, optimize resources, and protect populations. "Our ultimate goal is not to have more equipment or more technology. It is to have a safer territory and more prepared communities."
