During the three days of the Nossa Senhora dos Remédios festival, Germano Porfírio, president of the Union of Parishes of Gavião and Atalaia, was once again called upon for bar service, with a Saturday night being particularly special due to high attendance.
Germano Porfírio also supervised the accounts, as part of a commission that "gave their all" to ensure nothing failed, from the roast chicken service to the musical shows. The organization has already announced that "there will be more next year".
On September 21, 22, and 23, Atalaia was once again celebrating and gathered thousands of people at the José Júlio Delgado Cabeça Sports Complex. The festival brought together people from various parishes in the municipality, with musical moments, pleasant evenings, the traditional bull-running event (garraiada), and a lively card tournament (sueca).
In Gavião, tradition was upheld with two processions in honor of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios. A nighttime procession, from the chapel of Nossa Senhora dos Remédios, and a daytime one in the opposite direction, accompanied by the bands of Gavião and Nossa Senhora das Mercês (from the parish of Feteira, in Angra do Heroísmo). The processions were presided over by the parish priest Cristiano Pedro and attended by confraternities. António Severino, president of the Municipal Chamber of Gavião, carried the main float.
The fair, with a special mention for the filhós (a typical sweet), also marked the festival. During the three days of celebration (September 11, 12, and 13), the volunteer team worked to ensure that nothing was missing for the festival-goers, also offering rice pudding and a tombola, always with a smile.
