On October 15th, the University of Madeira held a session dedicated to the theme «Intangible Cultural Heritage and Visual Arts». The event featured Élia de Sousa, an anthropologist from the Regional Directorate of Culture, invited by Professor Pau Galbis, as part of the curriculum project for Visual Arts in the 3rd year of the Bachelor's Degree in Visual Arts.
The session focused on the relationship between Intangible Cultural Heritage and Visual Arts, with a particular emphasis on the audiovisual materials and content produced by the Regional Directorate of Culture for the documentation, valorization, and dissemination of the heritage of the Madeira archipelago.
Examples of various audiovisual resources produced within this work were presented, serving as tools for recording, valuing, interpreting, and disseminating knowledge, practices, expressions, and active cultural manifestations.
The initiative also provided a space for reflection on the contribution of Visual Arts to the communication and valorization of Intangible Cultural Heritage, bringing students closer to the documentation and dissemination practices developed in the Autonomous Region of Madeira.
