The Expo Sénior: Cultural Festival, promoted by the Funchal Municipal Council through its Longevity and Active Aging Division, demonstrated that age is no barrier to creativity, learning, and active community participation. The event brought together around 600 people at the Tecnopolo Auditorium, celebrating the Month of the Elderly, with ten groups from municipal spaces and invited institutions participating.
At the opening session, councilwoman Helena Leal, responsible for Education, Health, Social and Inclusion, Youth, and Sports, highlighted the event's importance in valuing longevity, talent, creativity, and the desire to keep learning. "Today, this stage belongs to you," she stated to the 210 participants who showcased their work in dance, song, theater, and poetry.
Helena Leal emphasized the collective effort behind each performance, involving participants, teachers, technicians, and institutions, and thanked everyone involved. "Age does not define our limits. Growing older does not mean stopping dreaming, discovering new interests, or actively participating in society. On the contrary, each stage of life opens up space for new experiences, friendships, and forms of personal fulfillment," she said, highlighting the role of Expo Sénior in promoting these opportunities.
The councilwoman reiterated the Municipality of Funchal's commitment to fostering a city that values active longevity, ensuring dignity, participation, creativity, and equal opportunities for all.
