The Funchal City Council has set up the Steering Committee for the II Municipal Youth Plan, a crucial step in revising the previous plan. This consultative body, part of the Municipal Youth Council (CMJ), was formally constituted during the first ordinary session of the CMJ for the current term, held on Monday, September 28, in the Municipal Assembly Hall.
The presented work methodology involves the active participation not only of the Municipality but also of young people, youth organizations, and other partner entities. This monitoring process precedes the formal approval in City Council and Municipal Assembly meetings.
The methodology is based on five phases, starting with diagnosis and the collection of contributions. These are followed by the identification of priorities, and the definition of objectives, measures, targets, and indicative resources.
During the session, a summary of ongoing activities, indicators, and projects was presented, along with various municipal programs aimed at youth. These include the Merit and Value Scholarships, Higher Education Student Scholarships, Youth Associativism initiatives, the Youth Participate project, the Educa-te project, the Youth Desk – an assistance office located in the Várzea Building, in São Martinho – and the Youth Forum, among others.
Furthermore, the councillor responsible for Youth recalled that the Municipality of Funchal received the ‘Youth-Friendly Municipality’ award this year, achieving the highest classification of five stars, awarded by the National Federation of Youth Associations. This distinction is seen as a recognition of the municipal strategy in the area of youth, focused on meeting the needs and aspirations of the concelho's young people and involving them in the construction of municipal policies.
