The Vila Franca de Xira City Council has announced a significant rise in participation in its sports activities, with the 6 Municipal Pools hosting 9,410 users for the 2026/2027 season, an increase of approximately 12.5% compared to the previous season. This outcome is part of a municipal strategy focused on promoting 'Sport for All', characterized by diversity, accessibility, and inclusion.
The most popular activities include hydro-gymnastics, particularly among seniors, and swimming for babies and children. The municipal offering also covers swimming instruction and technical improvement, artistic swimming, aquatic fitness, hydrotherapy, aquatic pilates, and postural correction. The Municipal Gymnasium of Vila Franca de Xira also provides group classes and fitness and wellness equipment.
The inclusive aspect is further enhanced by adapted swimming for children and young people with special needs. The municipal facilities, spread across Vila Franca de Xira, Alhandra, Quinta das Drogas, Alverca, Forte da Casa, and Póvoa de Santa Iria, play a crucial role in promoting health, inclusion, and quality of life, while also supporting competitive sports and local associative movements.
