The visit, organized in conjunction with FLAD – Luso-American Development Foundation, began in the Lezíria area, with a stop at the EVOA – Bird Watching and Observation Space. Lunch was served in the center of Vila Franca de Xira, where students tasted flavors from the Gastronomic Campaign “November, Month of Torricado and Field Flavors,” promoted in 40 local restaurants.
At the Paços do Concelho (Town Hall), the students were welcomed by Councilwoman Manuela Ralha, responsible for culture, social action, social housing, and veterinary affairs. Ralha shared insights into the history and people of the municipality, accompanying the group on a visit to the Vila Franca Market. Highlights included activities related to the primary sector and the building's magnificent tile heritage, with elements linked to the Ribatejo bullfighting culture.
The cultural program also included visits to the Quinta da Boavista Equestrian Center and the educational farm, where students observed various animal species and participated in introductory horseback riding sessions, reinforcing the horse's significance in Vila Franca de Xira's identity.
The initiative concluded with a tasting of “Encosta de Xira” wines at the Municipal Farm of Subserra, in Alhandra. An invitation was also extended to visit the “Xira Wine Fest” event, awarded Best Oenology Event 2025, which will take place from November 13th to 15th at the Multipurpose Pavilion, featuring around fifty registered wine producers.
This visit, conducted on October 23rd, followed another organized by FLAD, focusing on the region's natural heritage, which also delighted students from various US states.
