The investment will be made through the Municipal Services of Water and Sanitation of Sintra (SMAS de Sintra) and includes the rehabilitation of the Terrugem Reservoir, the renovation of the Montelavar Wastewater Treatment Plant (ETAR), and the acquisition of 750 new containers for selective waste collection.
These interventions aim to address identified needs to improve the quality of supplied water, the treatment of wastewater discharged into Sintra's streams, and the waste collection service. Notably, 750 new selective waste containers (paper/cardboard, plastic/metal, and glass) will be acquired, complementing the recent purchase of 700 containers for unsorted waste.
The renovation of the Montelavar ETAR, estimated at approximately 1.3 million euros, will enhance the wastewater treatment efficiency for the populations of Montelavar, Pêro Pinheiro, Morelena, Fação, Lameiras, Armês, Maceira, and Anços. The ETAR, operational for over four decades and initially designed for nine thousand inhabitants, was expanded in 2005 to serve 18,000 and requires rehabilitation of its treatment lines.
Regarding water supply, the Terrugem Reservoir will be upgraded with an estimated investment of 370 thousand euros. This intervention is part of the strategy to improve water storage facilities within the SMAS de Sintra system, which has already undertaken reservoir rehabilitation programs such as those in Rinchoa (630 thousand euros) and Gémeos (Monte Abraão, 500 thousand euros).
