The initiative, taking place near USF Queluz and USF D. Maria I (of ULS Amadora/Sintra), aims to facilitate early detection of the disease. On the final day, October 2nd, screenings will only be available until 12:00 PM.
Professionals from the screening teams of USF D. Maria I and the LPCC Mobile Unit will accompany the users throughout the process. Isabel Veiga Fernandes, who joined the teams, hopes her example will motivate other women to overcome fears and undergo the examination.
The screening, described as simple, quick, and free, allows for the detection of changes before any symptoms appear. Early detection can simplify treatments and increase the chances of disease control.
Eligible are women between 45 and 74 years old, residing in Sintra, who have no breast symptoms, do not have breast implants, have not undergone mastectomy, have never had breast cancer, and are not pregnant or breastfeeding. Those invited can undergo screening between 8:10 AM and 7:30 PM, except on October 2nd (until 12:00 PM).
This initiative is a collaboration between the Portuguese League Against Cancer – Southern Regional Nucleus, the Local Health Unit Amadora/Sintra, and the Municipality of Sintra, aiming to bring screening closer and make it more accessible.
