One of the largest sidewalk renovation plans ever implemented in the parish is currently underway in Moscavide and Portela. This structural project will unfold over the coming years, with the goal of replacing old pavements with more regular, stable, and comfortable solutions.
Where public space characteristics allow, old pavements are being replaced with slabs framed by the traditional Portuguese cobblestone (calçada portuguesa). In other areas, renovation is carried out using the Portuguese cobblestone itself, ensuring safer and more comfortable sidewalks in both cases. This approach preserves the identity of the sidewalks while significantly improving circulation conditions.
Sidewalk renovation represents a direct investment in safety, accessibility, and quality of life, creating more comfortable routes for everyone, especially seniors, people with reduced mobility, families with strollers, and all daily users of public space.
Similar to the Paving Plan, this work is phased and progresses in a balanced manner between Moscavide and Portela. The project's realization is the result of extensive planning and coordination by the Parish Council (Junta de Freguesia), in conjunction with entities such as the Loures Municipal Council (Câmara Municipal de Loures) and Loures Parque, combining different investment and management models to expand intervention capacity.
The work will continue over the next few years, following the defined plan and adapting to weather conditions and other interventions. The Parish Council acknowledges that there is still much to be done but reaffirms its commitment to planning, continuity, and investment to transform the parish, under the motto "We Move Forward Together. People First!".
