The University of Lisbon (ULisboa) has taken a significant step in modernizing its digital ecosystem by adopting the Google Workspace for Education Plus edition. This update introduces advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, boosting collaboration, productivity, and security for the entire academic community.

The main novelty lies in the direct integration of Gemini, Google's AI tool, into everyday applications such as Docs, Slides, Forms, and the new Google Vids. Also noteworthy is the enhancement of Gemini Notebook, which aims to facilitate research and the management of bibliographic sources and pedagogical materials in dedicated workspaces.
Regarding communication and teaching, Google Meet will now support meetings with up to 1,000 participants and broadcasts for up to 100,000 viewers. The platform will integrate advanced features, including automatic transcription and recording, optimizing the remote teaching and collaboration experience.
With these improvements, Google Meet and Microsoft Teams are consolidating as the primary institutional alternatives for videoconferencing and collaborative work at ULisboa. These solutions complement the tools already provided by the University, such as Microsoft Office, M365, Microsoft Copilot Chat, and the IAedu.pt platform, expanding the options previously covered by the FCCN's Colibri service.
The new subscription also strengthens cybersecurity and institutional data protection parameters, ensuring that AI interactions comply with the rigorous privacy standards required in a university context. Full details on these updates can be found at digital.ulisboa.pt.
