TML – Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa was present at Mobility Matchmaking 2026, an event held on October 19th at its headquarters in Lisbon. The initiative saw the launch of two strategic challenges in the areas of transport planning and passenger information, bringing together municipalities, transport operators, infrastructure managers, startups, and SMEs to find innovative technological solutions for urban mobility.
Organized by BGI – Sustainable Ventures, with the support of EIT Urban Mobility and TML, the event aimed to connect entities with real mobility needs with organizations capable of meeting them. Carlos Humberto de Carvalho, TML's president, welcomed attendees, highlighting the company's openness to innovation: “TML is a young company, only 5 years old, and constantly adapting technologically. We are an open house for evolution and integration.”
The meeting involved 27 entities and included a panel discussion on “Innovation in Urban Mobility: Public Transport for all Territories,” where Ricardo Barros (CIMAC) and João Talha (Carris) discussed the evolution of transport services and prospects for the next five years. Topics covered included flexible transport, the digital component, fleet electrification, and operator integration, with a focus on the role of navegante® in simplifying ticketing.
In this context of transformation, Margarida Dias, Data Analyst at TML, presented the challenges launched by the company. The first seeks to accurately estimate where passengers end their journeys, aiming to optimize routes and frequencies. The second challenge focuses on technological solutions for providing dynamic information at stops, quickly communicating operational changes.
The Municipality of Alenquer and Carris also presented challenges, related to real-time information, smart parking management, and passenger counting platforms. These challenges illustrated the diversity of opportunities for applying technological innovation to urban mobility.
Following the presentations, startups and SMEs showcased their proposals in Flash Pitch sessions, followed by one-on-one meetings to explore collaborations. BGI also presented funding opportunities through EIT Urban Mobility.
For TML, participation in the event represents an opportunity to explore new technologies, establish partnerships, and improve the efficiency and integration of the metropolitan public transport service, reinforcing its commitment to technological evolution and enhancing the passenger experience.
