The Institute of Education of the University of Lisbon has approved a resolution establishing guidelines for the use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) tools, promoting responsible and ethical application.

The resolution, approved by the Scientific Council, Pedagogical Council, School Council, and the Directorate of IE-ULisboa, aims to guide the academic community on the application of these technologies. GAI should be viewed as a tool to support learning and research, not as a substitute for critical thinking and originality.
The document emphasizes fundamental principles such as transparency, responsibility, human oversight, ethics, security, and equal access to knowledge. Faculty and supervisors will be required to inform students about the permissible uses and any restrictions applicable in each academic context.
Users of GAI tools must explicitly declare their use, while also ensuring the protection of personal data, third-party work, and sensitive information. This measure aims to uphold academic integrity and data confidentiality.
For final degree-awarding works, a Declaration of Integrity will become mandatory, indicating whether and how GAI was used. The resolution anticipates future updates to adapt to the evolving nature of these technologies.
