Rodoviária de Lisboa presented this Friday, October 15th, 37 new 100% electric buses that reinforce the Carris Metropolitana fleet in Area 2, serving the municipalities of Loures, Mafra, Odivelas, and Vila Franca de Xira.

The introduction of these vehicles marks the second phase of the electrification process for Rodoviária de Lisboa's operation, bringing the total number of electric vehicles in circulation to 77, which represents 14.5% of the fleet allocated to Area 2.
According to Carlos Humberto de Carvalho, president of Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML), the arrival of these new buses demonstrates concrete progress in operations, which transported 63.4 million passengers in 2025. The percentage of environmentally friendly vehicles in the fleet has increased from 5% in 2023 to nearly 15% in 2026, a reinforcement that allows for continued progress in electrification.
The new electric buses have estimated ranges of up to 400 kilometers for one model and up to 300 kilometers for another, ensuring coverage for different service types. Integrated technology allows for energy recovery during deceleration and braking, providing a smoother ride and efficient energy use, while also reducing maintenance needs for the engine and gearbox and significantly decreasing urban noise.
This fleet renewal by Carris Metropolitana, operated by Rodoviária de Lisboa in Area 2, continues the objective of using non-polluting and energy-efficient vehicles across the transport network.
