The Ministry of Education, Science and Innovation (MECI) is promoting the second edition of Financial Literacy classes in schools nationwide on October 30th, to mark the World Savings Day.

The initiative “Educate for Citizenship: Saving, a Commitment to the Future”, launched in 2025, is once again mobilizing hundreds of higher education students and faculty, in partnership with the Bank of Portugal, the CMVM, and the ASF. The goal is to raise students' financial literacy levels, making this a mandatory aspect of the Citizenship and Development subject.
Government officials and representatives from financial supervisory authorities will teach saving classes in public and private schools. University students and faculty from Economics, Management, Finance, and Accounting fields will share their knowledge with primary and secondary school students, in coordination with teachers.
This collaboration aims to bridge higher education with primary and secondary schools, offering students new references and perspectives, while allowing university students to apply and share their knowledge, contributing to the educational development of their communities.
The work initiated in 2025 with World Savings Day has been extended to other areas of Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship, including Family Budgeting, Taxation, Financial Systems and Products. Pedagogical resources are validated by the Institute for Education, Quality and Evaluation (EduQA).
This is the second initiative of the year within Citizenship and Development, following the Days of Integrity and Anti-Corruption, organized in partnership with the Ministry of Justice and MENAC.
The initiative includes classes led by members of the governmental teams from MECI and the Ministry of Finance (MF), and from the administrations of the Bank of Portugal, the CMVM, and the ASF.
