The headquarters of the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (AML) hosted yesterday, November 4th, the meeting of the metropolitan working group on education, coordinated by metropolitan secretary Ricardo Teixeira. The main topic highlighted was the transfer of competencies in education to municipalities and the consequent underfunding, as the transferred funds do not cover the actual costs assumed by the municipalities.
Data presented by municipal representatives underscored the need to update the funding amounts for transferred competencies, particularly concerning adapted school transport, support for students with Special Educational Needs, and school meals.
The FAMI 2030 notice (Asylum, Migration and Integration Fund) regarding the opening of applications for intercultural education support in schools was also discussed. This program aims to develop and implement programs to reinforce Portuguese language learning for children and youth from third countries and to promote initiatives that encourage the participation of these students' families in the school and local community.
The FAMI 2030 program also includes cultural and educational initiatives that promote familiarization with Portuguese constitutional values and the training of the school community in integrating citizens from third countries into the national community.
The meeting was attended by approximately 50 participants, including elected officials, technicians, and municipal leaders, metropolitan secretaries, and AML technicians.
