Academy of Sciences of Lisbon celebrates Microorganism Day with diaspora scientists

The Academy of Sciences of Lisbon marked the International Day of the Microorganism on September 17th with two initiatives involving diaspora scientists and the presentation of a digital book.

For the fifth consecutive year, the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon joined the commemorations of the International Day of the Microorganism. This year's celebrations featured two main initiatives, held on September 17th.
The first initiative was a session by the Class of Sciences, titled “Microbiology without borders: the Portuguese scientific diaspora”. The event included participation from diaspora scientists and featured a debate moderated by the Secretary of the Class of Sciences, Isabel Sá-Correia. The session was closed by the Secretary of State for Science and Innovation, Helena Canhão.
The second initiative was the presentation of the digital book “ABC of Marine Microorganisms”. This publication is an initiative of the Project Sailors of Hope (pediatric services), the Portuguese Committee for the IOC, and the National Committee for the Ocean Decade. The book presentation was closed by the Secretary of State for Fisheries and the Sea, Salvador Malheiro.
