Under the motto “30 years growing with Science and Responsibility”, the Pediatrics Meeting at Hospital Fernando Fonseca (HFF) reviewed the last three decades of activity, aiming to "care for the youngest so they can grow up healthy". The event, which officially opened yesterday, continues this morning with discussions on specific child health topics.
The opening session was attended by several hospital area personalities, including Tiago Serra, clinical director for hospital healthcare services at ULS Amadora/Sintra; Graça Nascimento, Nursing Director of the Unit; Helena Loureiro, Director of the Pediatrics Service; Rosalina Barroso, Director of the Neonatology Service; and Helena Ribeiro da Silva, Assistant Nurse. The meeting recalled, through the voice of Maria do Céu Machado, the first director of the Service, the challenges inherent in establishing a service that took its first steps in 1996.

Maria do Céu Machado highlighted that "the Pediatrics team has done extraordinary things", while Graça Nascimento emphasized "the various successful steps the Pediatrics Service has taken over the years".
Tiago Serra, clinical director of ULS Amadora/Sintra, expressed "pride and emotion in competently serving the Public Service", noting that the Pediatrics Service is now a "reference of excellence" aiming to ensure every child's future. He also recalled that over these 30 years, more than 70 resident doctors have been trained.
In addition to reviewing 30 years of activity, the meeting addresses pressing daily issues, such as the treatment of the migrant population and future challenges in innovation, new techniques, robotic surgery, and Artificial Intelligence.
