The Municipality of Peniche has signed a cooperation protocol with the Public Security Police (PSP) to implement a video surveillance system, enhancing safety and protection in the city.

The protocol was signed between the Mayor of Peniche, Filipe Sales, and the District Commander of PSP Leiria, Superintendent Domingos Urbano Antunes, establishing the foundations for this video surveillance project.
Following collaborative work with the PSP, strategic points in the city for the system and the necessary infrastructure have been identified. Conditions are now met to proceed with legal procedures, including consultation with the National Data Protection Commission (CNPD) and authorization from the Ministry of Internal Administration.
Under the agreement, the Municipality of Peniche will be responsible for the investment, installation, and maintenance of the equipment, while the PSP will manage the operation and monitoring of the system, respecting applicable legislation and citizens' rights. Real-time images will be viewed at the Peniche Police Division Headquarters, with recording and storage at the PSP District Command's Command and Control Center.
This initiative aims to prevent crime, deter illicit behavior, and support police activity, contributing to a sense of security. The system will complement the on-the-ground police presence, optimizing available resources for more effective prevention and response.
The Municipality reaffirms its commitment to cooperating with security forces for a safer municipality with a better quality of life for all.
