The Peniche Municipal Council presented the redevelopment project for the Nau dos Corvos, an investment of 650 thousand euros from community funds that will transform the building into a center for regional sea promotion and ocean literacy.
The Peniche Municipal Executive received the presentation of the redevelopment project for the Nau dos Corvos, in a meeting attended by the design team and ADEPE – Association for the Development of Peniche, a partner entity in its realization. The projected investment is 650 thousand euros, from community funds.
The intervention aims to transform the Nau dos Corvos into a reference space for regional sea promotion, ocean literacy, environmental awareness, and valorization of maritime heritage. The Municipality is coordinating with entities such as the Portuguese Environment Agency, while ADEPE handles the financing.
The project includes the creation of a cafeteria/bar and the reopening of the viewpoint terrace to the public, returning to the population one of Peniche's most emblematic spaces with a privileged view of the ocean.
“
"Ocean literacy is fundamental to raising new generations' awareness of the importance of the sea, its biodiversity, and the need to preserve our natural resources. The Nau dos Corvos can become an anchor project for promoting knowledge, environmental education, and the maritime identity of Peniche and the entire region."
“
"After so many years, having the Nau dos Corvos recovered and open to people again will be something truly special. We want it to be a space where people learn about the sea and the importance of preserving the oceans, but also where they can simply be, have a coffee, and contemplate one of the most beautiful sunsets we have to offer. Recovering this space and returning it to the population will be incredible!"
More than just recovering a building, the goal is to return to the community a space that is part of Peniche's memory, bringing people closer to the sea, knowledge, and our landscape.
