The Nazaré Municipal Council approved the calendar for the 2026 Participatory Budget, allowing citizens to submit investment proposals for the municipality until November 10th.

The Participatory Budget is a democratic participation instrument aimed at bringing citizens closer to municipal decisions and responding to needs identified in the municipality's three parishes. Citizens aged 16 or over, born, residing, working, or studying in the municipality of Nazaré, can participate.
Proposals can be submitted through the digital platform provided by the Municipality or via a dedicated form at the reception of the Paços do Concelho and at the headquarters of the three parish councils. The process began on October 21st with the collection of proposals, followed by technical analysis on November 13th and a claims phase on November 27th. Project voting is scheduled for November 29th, with public presentation of results on December 2nd.
The calendar concludes on December 15th with the approval of the Budget in a Council meeting. The winning project will be integrated into the Municipal Budget proposal for the following year. Since its implementation, the Nazaré Participatory Budget has selected projects in areas such as animal protection, social support, security, and service modernization, including the expansion of the Municipal Kennel (2016), the rehabilitation of the Clube Recreativo Beneficente Valadense (2017), a social action project at the Social Center of Famalicão Parish (2018), and the mobile application «Nazaré» (2019).
After a suspension in 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the acquisition of personal protective equipment for the Nazaré Volunteer Firefighters (2022) and the purchase of an Automated External Defibrillator (2023) were selected. In 2024, the procedure was not carried out. The Municipality is now resuming this participation mechanism, encouraging citizens to submit ideas and choose investments that meet the community's needs.
