The Municipality of Nazaré was present at the award ceremony for the Green Flags and Eco-Schools Prizes 2026, where it received accolades for its work in environmental education and sustainability, both at the municipal level and for the district's educational institutions.
The Municipality was recognized for its support of initiatives such as “Muros com Vida” (Walls with Life) and “O Mar Começa Aqui” (The Sea Starts Here), also receiving the “Município 100% Eco-Escolas” (100% Eco-Schools Municipality) diploma. These awards highlight the Municipality's engagement with the educational community in promoting sustainable behaviors and raising environmental awareness among students.
The ceremony, organized by the Blue Flag Association for Environment and Education (ABAAE), took place on October 8th, at Air Base No. 1, in Granja do Marquês, Sintra. The event gathered thousands of participants and marked the 30th anniversary of the Eco-Schools Programme in Portugal.
The Green Flags intended for Nazaré's educational establishments that could not attend will be presented at a session organized by the Municipality later this year.
The Municipality of Nazaré congratulated all involved educational institutions, students, teachers, and the entire educational community for their commitment to promoting environmental education and building a more sustainable municipality.
