Illustrator Catarina Sobral is the main winner of this edition, recognized for the illustrations in the book As pessoas são esquisitas, with text by Victor D. O. Santos and published by Orfeu Negro.
Special Mentions were awarded to Catarina Alves, for the illustrations in the book Natália Correia: Entre o riso e a paixão (text by Maria João Martins, published by INCM / Pato Lógico), and to Madalena Matoso for the illustrations in the book Fantasmas (text by Clara Rowland, published by Planeta Tangerina).
Established in 1996, the National Illustration Award annually recognizes an illustrator for their original illustrations published in a work released the previous year. The main award is 10,000 euros, plus 1,500 euros to support travel to the Bologna Children's and Young Adult Book Fair. Each Special Mention is 1,500 euros, also intended for participation in the same fair.
