The National Illustration Award (PNI), promoted by DGLAB, marks its 30th anniversary at FOLIO – Óbidos International Literary Festival. The 11th edition of the festival runs from October 8th to 18th, in the town of Óbidos, with the theme “Para Além da Pele”.
Established in 1996, the National Illustration Award annually recognizes an illustrator for their original illustrations published in a work released in Portugal the previous year. A list of all PNI winners since 1996 can be found on the official website.
The anniversary is celebrated at two events within FOLIO Ilustra, both held at the Galeria Nova Ogiva: on October 10th, at 4:00 PM, with the National Illustration Award ceremony and the inauguration of the XI PIM! – Exhibition of Illustration to Imagine the World, followed by the PNI's 30th-anniversary celebration; and on October 17th, at 3:00 PM, with the talk “30 anos do Prémio Nacional de Ilustração”.
The festival also features other activities with DGLAB's participation, such as the National Comic Award DGLAB 2026 session, on October 10th, at 2:30 PM, at FOLIO BD – Museu Abílio de Mattos e Silva, featuring Bruno Eiras, deputy director-general of DGLAB, and the edition's winners. On the same day, at 3:00 PM, the talk “Amizade e Literatura: casos de Brasil e Portugal” will take place, with António Cabrita and Fernando Paixão, and presentation by Selma Caetano.
