The Mayor of Gouveia Municipality, Jorge Ferreira, attended a ceremony in Guarda for the handover of equipment aimed at strengthening municipalities' intervention capacity in fuel management and rural fire prevention. The event was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Sea and the Institute for Nature Conservation and Forests (ICNF).
The session was attended by representatives from various municipalities, including the Minister of Agriculture and Sea, José Manuel Fernandes, the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, and the President of the ICNF's Board of Directors, Nuno Banza. Protocols for the cession of machinery to municipalities were formalized during the event.
The Municipality of Gouveia was among the beneficiaries, now equipped with a new tractor to support fuel management and territory maintenance efforts. This reinforcement of municipal resources will enable improved vegetation clearing and management interventions, contributing to a greater capacity for prevention and response to the risk of rural fires.
