The National Laboratory of Energy and Geology (LNEG) participated in the European Researchers' Night 2026, sharing knowledge on energy, sustainable cities, mineral resources, and circular economy in Lisbon and Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo.

On September 25th, LNEG took part in the event with activities across three different locations, using demonstrations, interactive activities, and educational games to share knowledge and foster dialogue with the public on the challenges of energy transition, sustainability, and the valorization of territory and its resources.
In Lisbon, at the Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Centro Ciência Viva, LNEG presented projects and solutions related to energy transition, urban sustainability, and energy communities. Visitors had the opportunity to learn about European projects such as We Generate, Re-Value, FEEnERT, and LEAP-RE Setadisma through interactive activities focused on developing more resilient and efficient cities. Direct engagement with researchers also facilitated discussions on climate and energy transition challenges.
At the Open Science Platform in Barca d’Alva, municipality of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo, LNEG showcased applications of cartography, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and remote sensing. Technologies like unmanned aerial vehicles and high-resolution data sensors, used in the Soil@int project for climate change mitigation monitoring, were presented. The activity demonstrated how the collection and analysis of spatial information contribute to understanding the territory and environmental management.
At the National Museum of Natural History and Science (MUHNAC) in Lisbon, games served as a starting point to explore topics such as energy, circular economy, and natural resources. Playful activities like the 'Game of Glory' on green hydrogen, the Circular Economy Game, and the 'Race for Minerals' Game, linked to the PRR M-ECO2 and Moving2Neutrality projects, stimulated curiosity and dialogue about the role of science and innovation in society.
LNEG's participation in the European Researchers' Night 2026 highlighted various ways of communicating science, bringing research closer to citizens and promoting scientific literacy.
