The Environmental Fund has allocated 500 thousand euros for the commencement of the Celorico da Beira Agroecological Park project. This initiative, budgeted at approximately six million euros, focuses on resilience and nature restoration within an urban setting. The protocol signing took place in Guarda, at the headquarters of APAL-SIM, Águas Públicas em Altitude.
During the same ceremony, APAL-SIM and the municipalities of Guarda and Fornos de Algodres had their sustainable development projects approved. These initiatives cover water resources, waste management, nature conservation, and biodiversity, adapted to climate change, aiming to foster a green economy.
The Celorico da Beira Agroecological Park, spanning 6.4 hectares, is intended for the promotion of pesticide-free agricultural products, contributing to sustainability. The space will also serve for cleaning, beautification, and as a venue for socialization and leisure for all age groups.
The project includes the creation of educational and community gardens, featuring a predominance of native trees, and spaces like the Casa Terra for workshops and local agricultural product sales. It will provide 38 parking spaces and be equipped with urban furniture and energy-efficient lighting.
In terms of recreational facilities, the park will offer an outdoor swimming pool, bar, cafeteria, restrooms, and areas for events, creating a new public space for community gathering.
