The Municipality of Lagos has formalized its adherence to the National Charter for Universal Accessibility, joining 43 other Portuguese municipalities in the initiative promoted by Associação Salvador.

The accession took place during the meeting “Cities for All”, held in Lisbon as part of the Accessibility Month. The municipality was represented by the vice-president of the Lagos Municipal Chamber, Paulo Jorge Reis.
The initiative, promoted by Associação Salvador in partnership with the Institute of Cities and Villages with Mobility (ICVM) and the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities (ANMP), aims to strengthen the role of local authorities in promoting universal accessibility and eliminating barriers to citizens' mobility, autonomy, and participation.
The signing of the Charter reflects the commitment of the signatory municipalities to prioritize accessibility, identifying obstacles and implementing concrete measures to build more inclusive territories with equal opportunities.
The ceremony was attended by representatives from various national and international entities, including the Secretary of State for Social Action and Inclusion, Clara Marques Mendes, and representatives from the Municipality of Zaragoza (Spain), recognized as European Capital of Accessibility 2026.
