The Lagos Municipal Council has been honored by the Directorate-General for Consumers with a recognition award for its work over three decades in promoting consumer rights.

The distinction, celebrating 34 years of operation of the CIAC - Municipal Consumer Information Center of Lagos, was presented by the organization's Secretary-General, Jorge Seguro Sanches, to the councilor responsible, Sara Coelho, accompanied by the coordinator of technical services in this area for the municipality, Lino Bernardo. The ceremony took place on September 29th at the Directorate-General for Consumers' premises in Lisbon.
Established in 1982, the CIAC network has become a cornerstone of Portugal's national consumer defense structure. Lagos was the only municipality in the Algarve region to receive this award, acknowledging its exemplary work with citizens in defending and promoting their rights. The ceremony also honored the CIAC technicians for their commitment and professionalism.
The CIAC, a free, personalized service, operates from the Citizen and Business Office of the Lagos Municipal Council, also offering services in local parishes by appointment. Its main responsibilities include informing and supporting consumers, as well as receiving and forwarding complaints to the CIMAAL - Center for Information, Mediation, and Arbitration of Consumer Disputes of the Algarve.
