Approximately 480 seniors gathered in Albufeira to celebrate International Senior Day with activities organized by the Municipal Council and the GNR, in a day focused on proximity and community.

The Fishermen's Square in Albufeira hosted an encounter between participants and GNR (National Republican Guard) officers, where a canine demonstration and the presence of a cavalry patrol sparked great curiosity among seniors, fostering moments of interaction and closeness.
The Albufeira Municipal Council organized various activities, from gymnastics and world dances to gold dance and chi kung, encouraging the exploration of different forms of movement and the sharing of a passion for physical activity. Palm weaving and painting activities also brought creativity and traditional knowledge to the morning gathering.
A tourist train ride took participants to the Albufeira Multipurpose Space, where a communal lunch preceded the musical entertainment. The GNR Alentejo Singing Group, along with singers Filipa Sousa, César Matoso, and Dany Tavares, provided the musical animation for the celebration.
The president of the Albufeira Municipal Council, Rui Cristina, highlighted the journey and contribution of the approximately 480 participants, emphasizing the importance of valuing seniors as an essential part of the community. "A community, to be truly valuable and balanced, must value its elders," he stated.
Integrated into the GNR's “Apoio 65 – Seniors in Safety” program, the initiative aimed to bring the senior population closer to institutions, providing opportunities for participation and contact, and combating social isolation through conviviality and the strengthening of community bonds.
