Since October 20th, approximately 230 students from basic schools n.º 3 and Misericórdia have had libraries in their respective establishments, where they can discover new stories, participate in activities, and borrow books to read at home. The inauguration ceremonies featured the students as protagonists, with presentations including songs, reading of book excerpts, and dances. The unveiling of the inaugural plaque was met with much applause from those present.
The municipal executive accompanied the inaugurations, which also included the presence of the Vice-President of CCDR Alentejo for Education and representatives from the Agrupamento de Escolas, the Associação de Pais, and the Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares. The furniture and IT equipment were provided by the Rede de Bibliotecas Escolares, which also funded the acquisition of books, selected by the Agrupamento de Escolas.
The Vice-President of the Vendas Novas Municipal Chamber, Luís Laranjo Matias, responsible for the Education portfolio, expressed his satisfaction with the opening of these facilities. "The Municipality said yes from the very beginning, recognizing their role in promoting reading and developing skills," he stated. He added that "in an increasingly digital age, books continue to allow us to travel, dream, and learn, and therefore, we want to continue supporting spaces where students can discover new interests and deepen their knowledge."
With these inaugurations, the school cluster's library network now comprises four spaces, including those already existing at the Centro Educativo and the Escola Secundária de Vendas Novas.
