The new service aims to facilitate travel within the city, improve access to key services and facilities, and promote more sustainable mobility. The service will be operated by an electric minibus with a capacity for 35 people, covering a 9.5-kilometer route with 17 stops.
The Reguengos Ecobus will have different schedules for weekdays and Saturdays. On weekdays, it will operate with 17 departures between 6:47 AM and 7:10 PM, and five departures on Saturdays, from 8:15 AM to 12:15 PM. Stops are clearly marked and located at various strategic points in the city, including Jardim da Paz, Bairro António Sérgio, Praça da Liberdade, Escola Secundária Conde de Monsaraz, Centro de Saúde, and Industrial Zones 1 and 2.
The creation of this service aims to meet the mobility needs of the population, primarily benefiting the elderly, people with reduced mobility, students, and citizens without private vehicles. The goal is to enhance autonomy, social inclusion, and equal opportunities in accessing city services, as well as contributing to the reduction of transport-related gas emissions.
The service will operate on an experimental basis for the first 12 months, during which the organization, operation, and route configuration may be evaluated and adjusted according to user needs.
As part of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR), the “Reguengos ECOBUS” application was submitted on May 2nd, 2024, with a total investment of 739,849.48 euros for the acquisition of two electric minibuses and two chargers.
