The Municipality Day, celebrated on October 7th, was marked by public recognition of young people, personalities, entrepreneurs, and institutions contributing to the development and projection of Oliveira do Hospital. The distinction of different generations and areas of intervention was one of the most emotional moments of the solemn session.
Students were honored for their academic merit, and young people through the Empreender + Contest, which values creativity and entrepreneurial spirit. Municipal Merit Medals were also awarded to personalities, entrepreneurs, companies, and institutions.
Academic Merit awards went to Madalena Pereira Borges (10th grade), Andreia Filipa Nunes Santos (11th grade), Lucas Tomé Antunes Tavares (12th grade), Diana Nunes Oliveira (Vocational Education), and Gonçalo André Jacinto Mendes (Higher Education).
In the Empreender + Contest, the winning projects were “Sabores de Oliveira do Hospital pelo Mundo” (1st place), “O Mercado” (2nd place), and “AI Floresta” (3rd place).
The Mayor, José Francisco Rolo, highlighted the investment of approximately 5.5 million euros in education, considering it fundamental for the municipality's development. "Investing in education is investing in people," he stated, emphasizing the importance of creating opportunities and combating inequalities.
Rolo also pointed out the municipality's educational offerings, from preschool to higher education, mentioning the Specialized Technology Centers in renewable energy and IT, and the new student residence at ESTGOH.
The Councilor for Education, Luísa Correia, reinforced the priority given to new generations and investment in education, which translates into better conditions for learning and building a future in the territory. She highlighted the diversity of the educational community, with over 3200 students, including about 300 foreign students from 40 different nationalities.
The Municipal Merit Medals were awarded to José Carlos Pinto, José Manuel Vieira, A. Borges Diniz, Lda., Museu do Azeite, Pacocal, and Serração de Madeiras César de Almeida Figueiredo e Filho, Lda.
José Francisco Rolo described the honorees as representatives of Oliveira do Hospital's "capacity to do, to create, to resist, and to believe," celebrating those who further the municipality's name through sports, culture, business activity, and heritage valorization.
