Oliveira do Hospital celebrated its Municipality Day on October 7th with a solemn session at the Casa da Cultura César Oliveira, focusing on the future, growth, and investment, including the awarding of Municipal Merit Medals.

The Mayor of Oliveira do Hospital, José Francisco Rolo, presented a vision for the municipality's future, centered on growth, attracting new residents and investment, and implementing strategic projects. He highlighted the municipality's development and its capacity to welcome people and life projects, emphasizing the approximately 60 million euros secured through the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) for strategic areas such as education, health, and renewable energies.
"The true meaning of development is to improve people's lives", stated Rolo, arguing that economic growth should translate into better living conditions. The realization of the IC6 highway was another central theme, reiterating its strategic importance for mobility, business competitiveness, and access to specialized healthcare, a project long-demanded for 30 years.
The Secretary of State for Local Administration and Spatial Planning, Silvério Regalado, assured government recognition of the IC6's strategic importance, informing that the Environmental Impact Assessment is scheduled for November and the tender for the construction work, estimated at 175 million euros, for the second quarter of 2027. Regalado stressed that "there is no territorial cohesion without good accessibility".
Luís Paulo Costa, vice-president of the Região de Coimbra, reinforced the regional necessity of the IC6 for mobility and territorial cohesion. The President of the Municipal Assembly, José Carlos Alexandrino, highlighted the significance of Municipality Day as a celebration of collective identity and an homage to those who have contributed to the municipality.
The solemn session also included the awarding of Municipal Merit Medals, a public recognition of individuals, companies, and institutions that have played a relevant role in enhancing Oliveira do Hospital. The celebrations began with a reception for guests and a flag-raising ceremony.
