The competition, held in the municipality that has hosted the sport for nearly three decades, featured 850 racing pigeons covering a distance of 310 kilometers, from Castro Verde to the Gaspar Vila Nova Columbodrome in Portomar. The Portuguese delegation achieved notable victories in the European Championship and the Ibero-Latin American Tournament, along with other significant placings.
The morning program included the 1st National Meeting of Women Pigeon Racers, followed by the official opening ceremony. The arrival of the pigeons subsequently captured the attention of the delegations and the public present at the columbodrome.
Delegations from 31 countries participated, including Malta and Saudi Arabia. This edition, with the World Championship as a highlight, reaffirmed Mira as a central hub for international pigeon racing, also fostering camaraderie and exchange among participants from various nationalities.
The initiative was organized by the Portuguese Pigeon Racing Federation, in partnership with the Municipality of Mira, and supported by the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ). This collaborative effort aims to promote the sport and host its major international events.
The Municipality of Mira expressed gratitude to all involved, including participants, delegations, the Portuguese Pigeon Racing Federation, the IPDJ, pigeon fanciers, officials, technicians, volunteers, and the public, for their contribution to the event's success.
The local authority congratulated the winners and highlighted the achievements of the Portuguese representatives, on a day that once again brought the international pigeon racing community together in Mira.
