The Municipality of Góis held its 1st Psychology Encounter, themed "Better Safe Than Sorry… Promotion of Psychological Health", on October 16th, at the Casa da Cultura.

The event gathered professionals from various fields to reflect on the challenges of psychological health and the importance of prevention in contexts such as work, aging, parenting, and school. In the opening session, the Mayor of Góis, Rui Sampaio, highlighted the importance of creating spaces for reflection and knowledge sharing to provide more adequate responses to the population's needs.
Rui Sampaio emphasized the work developed by the Municipality, including psychology consultations available in parishes, community centers, and homes, the promotion of parental and personal skills, and the assessment of psychosocial risks at work. The Municipality's Psychology Service has three psychologists and has diversified its services through projects like "Encaminhar" and the informal network "Góis em Mente", with Góis set to join the European Cities Network for Mental Health in 2026.
Catarina Calado, representative of the Central Regional Delegation of the Order of Portuguese Psychologists, congratulated the initiative and stressed the need to strengthen prevention, psychological health literacy, and networking, advocating for investment as part of social development and territorial cohesion.
The program also included a presentation by Organizational Psychologist Ricardo Porém on promoting psychological health in the workplace, and by Ângelo Valente, President and co-founder of the Extragenária Association, on intervention practices with the elderly population.
In the afternoon, Clinical Psychologist Mariana Pimentel addressed the challenges of contemporary parenting, and Melanie Tavares, Coordinator of School Mediation at the Child Support Institute, presented data on the Student and Family Support Offices (GAAF).
The encounter featured a cultural moment with Daniel Alvoeiro, a young resident of the municipality. At the closing session, Councilor Paula Matos thanked the quality of the presentations and highlighted the importance of the work of psychology professionals.
With this edition, the Municipality of Góis reinforces its commitment to promoting psychological health and prevention, encouraging knowledge sharing and cooperation among professionals and community entities.
