The Quinta das Bicas in Coimbra has completed the second phase of delivering controlled-cost housing, now totaling 128 beneficiary households and 72 more homes handed over.

The Quinta das Bicas development, one of the main housing solutions promoted by the Municipality of Coimbra under the Local Housing Strategy and the 1st Right Program, financed by the PRR, has added 72 more homes. With this second phase, the total number of beneficiary households reaches 128, comprising 298 people, including 93 students.
The development includes 268 controlled-cost homes, distributed across 76 T1 units, 110 T2, 42 T3, and 40 T4. Of the total, 262 homes are in buildings under horizontal property regime and six are semi-detached houses. The project benefits from PRR financial support exceeding 36 million euros.
The Mayor, Ana Abrunhosa, highlighted the importance of housing for family stability and the role of European funding. "A home is much more than four walls: it is the place from which we organize our lives," she stated.
The Minister of Infrastructure and Housing, Miguel Pinto Luz, framed this initiative within the country's housing crisis, emphasizing the goal of "allowing everyone to have a roof and a starting point for happiness."
The first phase, completed in July, delivered 56 homes (28 T1 and 28 T2). The second phase now completed covers 72 homes (36 T2 and 36 T3). Families were identified through the Local Housing Strategy and the 1st Right Program.
The Quinta das Bicas, located in Taveiro, is the largest public housing development financed by the PRR and aims to ensure adequate housing for individuals and families in housing need.
The occupation of the homes is phased and supported by municipal services, in coordination with the Coimbra Social Network and various local entities, including parish councils, Social Security, health centers, and the GNR.
Family support is provided by a permanent multidisciplinary technical team, composed of psychologists and social workers. The development includes a modular space for social services and plans for a second space for community activities.
