The exhibition, which opened on November 2nd, was attended by curators António Apolinário Lourenço and Manuel Seixas, and Isabel Paiva, president of the Grupo de Arqueologia e Arte do Centro (GAAC).
Comprising 16 panels, the exhibition explores Camilo Pessanha's life and work through texts, photographs, documents, and graphic elements, detailing his personal journey, education, and literary creation.
António Apolinário Lourenço, retired professor from the Faculty of Arts of the University of Coimbra and a specialist in Pessanha's work, highlighted the poet's decisive importance in Portuguese literature, stating that his influence allows for a distinction between Portuguese literature before and after Pessanha. He also emphasized the modernity and relevance of his writing, recalling the admiration expressed by major figures in Portuguese literature, such as Fernando Pessoa.
The event also featured a performance by Maria José Carvalho, who voiced some poems from Clepsidra, the poet's most emblematic work.
Produced by GAAC and the Centre for Portuguese Literature of the University of Coimbra, in association with Alma Shopping, the exhibition aims to mark the centenary of Camilo Pessanha's death and promote the rediscovery of his life, the richness of his poetry, and his influence on contemporary Portuguese literature.
The exhibition will be on display at the Municipal Public Library Pedro Fernandes Tomás until December 4th, open from Monday to Friday, between 9:30 AM and 6:30 PM, and on Saturdays, from 2:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
