The initiative, organized by the Metropolitan Region of Coimbra as the Portuguese partner of the INTERREG Europe FISSH project, aimed to demonstrate how a territory can enhance its food products and foster the relationship between producers and consumers through concrete examples. The meeting addressed marketing, consumption, and consumer perception of sustainable food products.
The program included presentations of strategic projects by the Metropolitan Region of Coimbra in the food domain, such as the Food Strategy 2022-2030, Coimbra Gastronomic Region, Rota dos Mercados (Market Route), and PROVERE do Queijo e Vinho (Cheese and Wine Promotion Program). Visits were made to the Agrarian Higher School of Coimbra, INOPOL, HIESE in Penela, the Municipality of Cantanhede, and Quinta de Baixo.
During the event, sessions were held for sharing best practices among partner regions, and an experimental study on the use of ultraviolet rays to combat mildew and oidium in the vineyards of Bairrada was presented.
In addition to the Metropolitan Region of Coimbra as host, participants included ANATOLIKI SA and the Regional Development Fund of Central Macedonia (Greece); Seinäjoki University of Applied Sciences and the Regional Council of South Ostrobothnia (Finland); the province of Kuyavia-Pomerania (Poland); and the Economic Council of East Flanders (Belgium).
