The Auditorium of the Hospital Distrital da Figueira da Foz hosted the 1st Nutrition Conference of ULS Baixo Mondego, where the Municipality was represented by technicians from the Department of Social Affairs, Education, and Sport (DASED) and from CI. CMAC — Research Center for Marine Currents, Sand Movement, and Climate Change.
During the meeting, DASED presented the municipal project «Olhó Peixe Fresquinho» (Look at Fresh Fish), an initiative focused on promoting healthy eating, valuing local fish, and reinforcing food literacy within the community.
CI. CMAC participated in Panel 3 — «Smart Territories: the role of local communities», with the presentation «The Sea That Feeds Us». The presentation highlighted the strategic importance of scientific knowledge for enhancing the maritime economy, protecting coastal ecosystems, and promoting community health.
The intervention also emphasized the contribution of applied research and monitoring of the coastline's evolution, the estuary, and sedimentary dynamics for more informed, preventive, and sustainable territorial management. The core message was clear: caring for the sea also means protecting health, the economy, and quality of life.
Through these participations, the Municipality of Figueira da Foz shared the work developed in the area of food education, aiming to raise public awareness about the importance of consuming fish as a nutritionally valuable food. The Municipality reinforced its commitment to promoting the health and well-being of the population, recognizing food education as an essential area of intervention and valuing initiatives that connect the community with local resources and traditions.
