The funds will be used for a series of interventions focused on the municipal road network, water supply systems, rainwater drainage, leisure facilities, and heritage sites affected by the blaze.
Luís Paulo Costa, Mayor of Arganil, highlighted the crucial role of this funding in the municipality's recovery, stating it is essential for addressing the extensive damages that had awaited a solution for over a year.
The largest portion of the investment, approximately 3.76 million euros, is allocated to repairing pavements, retaining walls, metal guardrails, and road signage on various municipal roads. Planned works include paving sections such as Piódão – Chãs d’Égua – Foz d’Égua, Benfeita – Pardieiros, Fórnea – Malhada Chã, and EM 508 – Picota.
Additionally, around 552,000 euros will go towards restoring water and sanitation infrastructure, upgrading pedestrian trails, leisure facilities, and bathing areas, including Foz d’Égua and Fórnea, as well as rehabilitating the former Primary School of Pardieiros.
This support complements the 500,000 euros already secured from the Environmental Fund for the recovery of the access road to Mata da Margaraça, which was damaged by severe weather earlier in the year.
