The Walking Football Penamacor team has kicked off its sports season. The first training session for this newly formed team, promoted by the Municipality of Penamacor, took place on Thursday, October 15th, at the Municipal Pavilion.
Currently, the group has 19 registered practitioners with the Portuguese Football Federation. Weekly training sessions are held on Thursdays at 10:00 AM at the Municipal Pavilion.
Throughout the year, the team will participate in various matches with other teams from the district, and one of these encounters is also scheduled to take place in Penamacor.
It is recalled that the Municipal Council unanimously approved the creation of the team at its meeting on April 16th.
Walking Football is a variant of football aimed at encouraging sports participation among individuals over 50 years old, promoting integration and social interaction for a more active life. The sport seeks to combat isolation, sedentary lifestyles, and depression, contributing to improved health indicators and increased social interaction among participants.
Without running, jumping, or tackling, Walking Football is an adapted way to play football, regardless of age or physical condition, prioritizing the safety of its practitioners.
This initiative is part of the Municipality's policy to promote healthy lifestyles and active aging, particularly through support for inclusive projects of this nature.
