Nearly 950 residents over 60 years old from Oleiros celebrated Senior Day at the Multiusos das Devesas Altas, in an event featuring social gatherings, music, a mass, and health screenings.

The Senior Day commemorations, held on Sunday, October 4th, at the Multiusos das Devesas Altas, brought together hundreds of participants in a celebration deeply rooted in the tradition of the municipality of Oleiros. The event, organized by the Câmara Municipal de Oleiros in partnership with CLDS 5G “Raízes” de Oleiros, was attended by approximately 950 residents over 60 years old, coming from all parishes and Private Institutions of Social Solidarity (IPSS).
The program included moments of social interaction, musical entertainment, and the customary mass. To ensure everyone could attend, the municipality, in collaboration with the Parish Councils and IPSS, provided transportation for the senior participants.
The President of the Câmara Municipal de Oleiros, Miguel Marques, expressed his gratitude to the attendees, acknowledging their contributions: “Thank you to all of you, to the men and women who are here for what you have done and continue to do, for your families, for your villages, and for the municipality of Oleiros.”
Marques highlighted the legacy and dedication of the senior population in the municipality's history, stating: “when we look at our land and our municipality, we find your work everywhere, in the fields you cultivated, in the houses you built, in the businesses you had, in the associations you were part of, in the children and grandchildren you raised”.
“Oleiros needs your experience, your ideas, and your voice,” the mayor emphasized, adding: “we want to count on you, listen to you, and talk with you about the future and development of our municipality”.
During the social lunch, served by Municipal employees, each participant received a beach towel as a souvenir, offered by the municipality.
The Mobile Health Unit of Oleiros was also present, conducting screenings and providing assistance. The venue was also staffed by an ambulance and two members from the Associação Humanitária dos Bombeiros Voluntários de Oleiros, ensuring safety and immediate support.
The festivities continued with music, dancing, and joy, in an atmosphere that reflected the spirit of community and unity characterizing this day and the Oleiros community.
