While acknowledging the reduction in direct impacts on the Fundão municipality with the reformulation of the Sophia Project, the Parish Council of Enxames highlights that negative impacts for its population continue to exist, particularly due to the Very High Voltage lines crossing the parish. The northern option for these lines follows approximately 70% of the existing route.
The Council advocates for clean energy production but considers the protection of the parish's territory, landscape, population, and future opportunities to be non-negotiable. It emphasizes that the energy transition must be carried out in a balanced manner, respecting land use planning, the environment, biodiversity, health, and the quality of life for local residents and visitors.
It is noted that the reformulated Sophia Project proposal presents significant omissions and flaws in the Environmental Impact Study, notably the absence of studies on its impact on human health.
Therefore, the Parish Council of Enxames reaffirms that the energy transition and green energy must be implemented in a balanced way, reinforcing its commitment to land use planning, the environment, biodiversity, health, and the quality of life of its population. The Parish of Enxames will continue to staunchly defend its territory, identity, and the well-being of its population.
Given the currently known conditions, the Parish Council of Enxames issues a negative opinion on the reformulation of the Sophia Photovoltaic Solar Power Plant Project, within the framework of the public consultation process for environmental impact assessment.
