The Municipal Library Padre António Mourinho and the Antiga Cadeia (Old Prison) are the venues hosting two of the exhibitions for the Linha da Terra Biennial in Miranda do Douro. This artistic project aims to connect the nine municipalities of Terras de Trás-os-Montes, promoting contemporary art and cultural decentralization.
At the opening ceremony, Pedro Lima, president of the Intermunicipal Council, highlighted the Biennial's importance as an example of territorial cohesion and bringing municipalities closer. He emphasized the unprecedented nature of this inter-municipal initiative in fostering regional development and projection.
Helena Barril, president of the Miranda do Douro Municipal Chamber, underscored culture's role as a driver of development and expressed hopes for the artistic celebration's continuation in the coming years.
The exhibition “Terra que fala / Tierra que fala”, displayed at the Municipal Library and curated by Domingos Loureiro, features nine Portuguese and Spanish artists. The show explores the relationship with the land from the perspective of the Planalto Mirandês, with a particular focus on the Mirandese language as an expression of identity and memory transmission. It includes works by Alba Cortes, Álvaro Domingos, Balbina Mendes, José Maria Lillo, José Naranjo Ferrari, Luís Fortunato Lima, Maria Cruz, Maria Regina Ramos, and Teresa Almeida.
At the Antiga Cadeia, João Paulo Meirinhos presents “Terra que fala - Anamnese”, coordinated by Domingos Loureiro. The artist, originally from the Planalto Mirandês, transforms the former prison into a journey reflecting his connection to the territory, exploring themes of belonging and freedom.
Both exhibitions are open to the public free of charge until December 31st. The Linha da Terra Biennial is promoted by the CIM Terras de Trás-os-Montes, with the participation of the nine municipalities and artistic direction by Inês Falcão, under the theme "A territory connected by art".
